Purple Pinky Day

October 24, 2017 @ 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm

Purple Pinky Day with Dr. Eddie Coyle: Polio Survivor and Delco Hall of Famer

The Rotary Club of Media will have a special event on October 24, 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. at the Media-Upper Providence Library Community room to celebrate World Polio Day.  The event is open to the public.

There is no cost for the event but those attending will be encouraged to make a donation to Rotary’s End Polio Now effort, with all donations matched 2-1 by the Gates Foundation.  Those making a donation will dip their pinky in a safe purple dye, a sign of solidarity with children around the world who get a “purple pinky” when they have been immunized.  There will be light refreshments.

Since 1985, Rotary International has led the effort to eradicate polio from the earth.  At that time, there were about one thousand cases a day worldwide.  Last year, there were only 8 cases of wild poliovirus report worldwide in only three countries.  During its thirty year effort Rotary Clubs across the globe have organized and participated in mass immunizations, Rotarians have donated over $1 billion, and they have lobbied and worked with their national leaders to support this effort.
