- Our Summer Reading Challenge is open to children ages 0-12.
- Registration may be done at the library or online at http://bit.ly/DelcoSRC under the Dig Into Reading tab if you’re reading yourself and under the Read to Me tab if your adult reads to you.
- Use the Online Reading Log to keep track of how long you read (Or pick up a Time Log at the Summer Reading Kickoff).
- Stop in once a week to have us check your Reading Log and get a prize.
- Reach 15 hours (20 min/day) and get a bookmark timer and a new book to keep!
- Summer Reading for school can be counted in our Summer Reading Challenge!
SUMMER READING KICKOFF: Dino Dig
Tuesday, June 25 @ 11:00 am. For ages 5-12.
Join us in the Mansion Parlor Room for our Summer Reading Kickoff at the Dino Dig with Paleontologists Mike & Roberta Straka. Meet Mr. Nixon, an eight foot Triceratops skull discovered by their team, learn about the formation of fossils, herbivores vs. carnivores, basics of geology, and enjoy Original music, songs, show and tell with unusual fossils, a touch of magic and a “Dinosaur” game show.
Registration is not required. This event will be held at the Mansion Parlor Room located at 301 N Jackson St, Media, PA 19063.
Dig Into Reading with the Origami Swami
Wednesday, July 3 @ 6:30 pm. For ages 5-12.
Stop by for an evening of magic tricks, mind-boggling riddles, tales of bravery and adventure, and the wonder of paperfolding. Here’s the secret combination: 736, 793, 398. Crack the code and discover treasure at your library.
Dig Into the Past
Monday, July 8 @ 2:00 pm. For ages 6-12.
Archaeologists have discovered much about how people in the past lived. This program by the American Swedish Historical Museum explores what we can learn about daily life from the material culture people have left behind. By investigating reproduction artifacts and images of excavation sites, children will be introduced to cultures such as the Vikings of Scandinavia and the early Swedish settlers of the Delaware Valley.

Thursday, July 18 @ 1:00 pm. For ages 9+
Stop by to learn about metal detecting with David Poland and try it out for yourself. See some of the many valuable items that Detector Dave has unearthed in his 25 years of searching. What treasure can you find?
Eye to Eye
Friday, Jul 19 @ 1:00 pm. For ages 3-6.
Learn about your sense of sight with Mad Science! Experiment with magnifying glasses, kaleidoscopes and binoculars. Interact with a variety of optical illusions to illustrate that your eyes can sometimes play tricks on you.
Cowboy Capers Puppet Show
Monday, July 22 @ 6:30 pm. For ages 2-7.
Help Sheriff Sam get the animals back in the barn. Then stick around down at the ranch because you just might help uncover a long-lost buried treasure. Registration is not required.
Friday, July 26 @ 11:00 am. For ages 5-8.
Come learn about garden design and practice landscaping techniques with Winterthur Museum. Discover what some gardens and bowling alleys have in common; make a living garden map!
The Bugs of Blackwood
Friday, August 2 @ 11:00 am. For ages 5-12.
Join us at the Community Center as Sciencetellers teach us about matter by telling a story using science experiments. Benjamin has a good life living on Blackwood Avenue. Most of his neighbors are friendly. He has a large extended family always there to help him. And on most days you’ll find him working in the garden. However, all this was about to change the day he was accidentally brought into the house. You see, Benjamin is a bug and now he must be rescued! By using experiments with fire, gas, air pressure, water, chemicals, and much more, see if Benjamin’s friends can save him before all hope is squashed!

PAWS for Reading
Weds, July 17, 31, Aug 7, 21 @ 6:45 pm. For ages 5-11.
PAWS for Reading is a program that allows children to read aloud to a therapy dog in order to improve reading and communication skills. Children read individually to trained pets (and their handlers) in settings where they can feel comfortable and confident — and have fun!
Thursdays @ 10:00 am. For ages 0-24 months.
Enjoy an hour of independent play where you and your child may socialize with other parents, caregivers and infants. Registration is not required.
Fridays @ 1:00 pm. For ages 3-4.
NO STORYTIME JULY 19.
Preschool Storytime consists of stories and a craft/activity.
Saturdays, July 13, Aug 10 @ 1:30 pm. For all ages.
We will be showing a G- or PG-rated movie on 2nd Saturdays! Snacks will be provided. Registration is not required.
