SUMMARY:Friday Film Club: Get Out
DESCRIPTION:Our Friday Film Club in March goes to the Oscars! \nFilms start at 1:00 pm in the library’s upstairs theater and is for adults 18 & up.  \nAcademy Award winner for Best Original Screenplay goes to Get Out Writer/Director Jordan Peele. \nGet Out manages both horror and satire in this thought provoking film that shows what may still be lurking beneath or even on the surface. All starts innocently enough now that Chris and his girlfriend\, Rose\, have reached the meet-the-parents milestone of dating\, she invites him for a weekend getaway upstate with Missy and Dean. At first\, Chris reads the family’s overly accommodating behavior as nervous attempts to deal with their daughter’s interracial relationship\, but as the weekend progresses\, a series of increasingly disturbing discoveries lead him to a truth that he never could have imagined. \nHot Tea\, Pastries & Popcorn served and discussion after all movies. \nCheck out the rest of our March Movies here.

Unable to bring himself to tell anyone about it\, especially his estranged family\, Lee can only brood alone as troubling\, yet inspiring\, dreams haunt him. Things change when he meets Charlotte Dylan\, a stand-up comedian who inadvertently jump-starts his public profile. Now facing a profound emotional conflict of having a potential career comeback even as he struggles with his illness. \nThe Hero was written for actor Sam Elliott and parallels his western persona in playing a former star in his autumn years – and to remind you that he’s a great unsung actor. \nFriday Films in December start at 1:00 PM in the library’s upstairs theater and for adults 18 & up.\nHot Tea\, Pastries & Popcorn served and discussion after all movies.

SUMMARY:Friday Film Club: Maudie
DESCRIPTION:Our Friday Film Club in November builds on our house is a home theme with: Who to invite?  \nMAUDIE\, is based on the true story of folk artist Maud Lewis (Sally Hawkins) and the unlikely romance between Maud and a hardened reclusive bachelor\, Everett Lewis (Ethan Hawke). \nMaud\, a bright-eyed\, intelligent woman\, hunched with crippled hands from arthritis\, yearns to be independent and to live away from her overly protective family. She escapes her solitary existence in her aunt’s home through her art\, dreaming away the days\, until in her early 30s she finds\, and answers\, an advertisement for a housekeeper. \nEverett Lewis is a 40 year old bachelor who owes nothing to anyone. He lives in a 10×12 foot house that has neither running water nor electricity\, but at least it’s all his. He is his own boss and has everything he needs\, except maybe a woman to clean his house and cook his meals. \nFall Films in November start at 1:00 PM in the library’s upstairs theater and for adults 18 & up.\n Hot Tea\, Pastries & Popcorn served and discussion after all movies. \nClick for more about Film Club

SUMMARY:Friday Film Club: A Ghost Story
DESCRIPTION:Recently deceased\, a white-sheeted ghost (Academy Award-winner Casey Affleck) returns to his suburban home to console his bereft wife (Academy Award-nominee Rooney Mara)\, only to find that in his spectral state he has become unstuck in time\, forced to watch passively as the life he knew and the woman he loves slowly slip away. Increasingly unmoored\, the ghost embarks on a cosmic journey through memory and history\, confronting life’s ineffable questions and the enormity of existence. \nAn unforgettable meditation on love and grief\, A GHOST STORY emerges ecstatic and surreal – a wholly unique experience that lingers long after the credits roll.\n  \nFall Films in October start at 1:00 pm in the library’s upstairs theater and is for adults 18 & up. Hot Tea\, Pastries & Popcorn served and discussion after all movies. \nClick Friday Film Club for more details

SUMMARY:Friday Film Club: Wakefield
DESCRIPTION:Our Friday Film Club in October explores: When is a house a home?  \nIn Robin Swicord’s adaptation of E.L. Doctorow’s short story\, successful suburbanite commuter Howard Wakefield (Bryan Cranston) takes a perverse detour from family life: He vanishes without a trace. Hidden in the attic of his carriage house garage\, surviving by scavenging at night\, Howard secretly observes the lives of his wife (Jennifer Garner) and children and neighbors. WAKEFIELD becomes a fraught meditation on marriage and identity\, as Howard slowly realizes that he has not in fact left his family\, he has left himself. \n  \nFall Films in October start at 1:00 PM in the library’s upstairs theater for adults 18 & up.      Hot Tea\, Pastries & Popcorn served and discussion after all movies. \n  \nThere are those that love their house so much\, they just can’t leave\, as in Wakefield on October 20th\, and A Ghost Story on October 27th. \nClick here for more on Film Club
