SUMMARY:Friday Film Club: Code Blue
DESCRIPTION:For 2020\, did you make a New Year’s resolution about your health?\nAll our January picks involve health\, whether medical\, legal\, quality\, or just stages of life. \nFilms are shown Friday Afternoon at 1 PM in our upstairs theater for adults 18 & up.\nHot Tea\, Pastries & Popcorn served and discussion after all movies. \n  \nWould you change your habits to live a longer\, healthier life? \nCode Blue provides the prescription to do just that. \nCode Blue reveals lapses in the current state of medicine and provides a common sense solution by featuring the practice of lifestyle medicine to prevent\, manage and reverse chronic diseases. The film presents the hurdles to the proposed shift: antiquated curricula in medical schools\, confusion in the media\, inadequate government policies\, and the underlying influences of the pharmaceutical and food industries. \nCode Blue follows a passionate physician\, Dr. Saray Stancic\, as she introduces us to expert physicians and scientists who are paving the way to make meaningful and necessary change in our healthcare environment\, and in turn\, empowering audiences to stand up and reclaim control of their health. \n  \nThis film was well received at our Veggie Table Talk program and we had many requests to feature for an afternoon viewing. \nSee all our January 2020 Friday Film selections here.

SUMMARY:Friday Film Club: Amadeus
DESCRIPTION:Films are shown Friday Afternoon at 1 PM in our upstairs theater for adults 18 & up.\nHot Tea\, Pastries & Popcorn served and discussion after all movies. \nOur Friday Film Club for 2019 ends with Amadeus: \nWolfgang Amadeus Mozart (Tom Hulce) finds a fierce rival in the disciplined and determined Antonio Salieri (F. Murray Abraham). Resenting Mozart for both his hedonistic lifestyle and his undeniable talent\, the highly religious Salieri is gradually consumed by his jealousy and becomes obsessed with Mozart’s downfall\, leading to a devious scheme that has dire consequences for both men. \nConsidered one of the best films of all time\, Amadeus was nominated for 53 awards and received 40\, including eight Academy Awards. \n  \nWe went to the opera and ended on a high note in December by watching Maria by Callas and Ron Howard’s Pavarotti.  \n2020 will bring a whole new year of Friday Films!

SUMMARY:Friday Film Club: Big Night
DESCRIPTION:“Big Night” is one of the great food movies\, and yet it is so much more. It is about food not as a subject but as a language–the language by which one can speak to gods\, can create\, can seduce\, can aspire to perfection. There is a moment in the movie when a timpano is sliced open\, and the audience sighs with simple delight. \nThe movie exists in the real world\, where you can go broke selling great food. It tells the story of two brothers\, recent immigrants to America\, who run a restaurant named Paradise. The older brother\, named Primo (Tony Shalhoub)\, is a genius as a chef. The younger brother\, named Secondo (Stanley Tucci)\, knows it. – Roger Ebert \nFilms are shown Friday Afternoon at 1 PM in our upstairs theater for adults 18 & up.\nHot Tea\, Pastries & Popcorn served and discussion after all movies. \n  \nFor November we are all about being Thankful for Food & Drink.\nWe travel to Wine Country in Northern California and hope all the vineyards stay safe from fires.\nWe then go into the main course with the Big Night\, and get ready for our Thanksgiving Feasts with Julie & Julia! \n  \nWE are CLOSED for Thanksgiving Holiday on Thursday\, November 28\, and Friday\, November 29.

SUMMARY:Closed for Veterans Day
DESCRIPTION:The library will be closed Monday\, November 11th\, in observance and celebration of all those that have served in the US military. \nVeterans Day\, observed annually on November 11\, is a tribute to military veterans who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. Not to be confused with Memorial Day\, which honors those who died while in service\, Veterans Day honors all military veterans\, including those still with us \nVeterans Day\, originally celebrated as Armistice Day\, was first issued on November 11\, 1919 by President Woodrow Wilson a year after the end of World War I. The purpose of Armistice day was to honor the fallen soldiers of The Great War for their sacrifice and bravery. 7 years later in 1926\, Congress adopted a resolution requesting President Coolidge issue annual proclamations on November 11\, making Armistice Day a legal holiday. \nIn 1945\, World War II veteran Raymond Weeks had the idea to expand Armistice Day to celebrate all veterans rather than just the ones who died in World War I.
