SUMMARY:Friday Film Club: Big Night
DESCRIPTION:“Big Night” is one of the great food movies\, and yet it is so much more. It is about food not as a subject but as a language–the language by which one can speak to gods\, can create\, can seduce\, can aspire to perfection. There is a moment in the movie when a timpano is sliced open\, and the audience sighs with simple delight. \nThe movie exists in the real world\, where you can go broke selling great food. It tells the story of two brothers\, recent immigrants to America\, who run a restaurant named Paradise. The older brother\, named Primo (Tony Shalhoub)\, is a genius as a chef. The younger brother\, named Secondo (Stanley Tucci)\, knows it. – Roger Ebert \nFilms are shown Friday Afternoon at 1 PM in our upstairs theater for adults 18 & up.\nHot Tea\, Pastries & Popcorn served and discussion after all movies. \n  \nFor November we are all about being Thankful for Food & Drink.\nWe travel to Wine Country in Northern California and hope all the vineyards stay safe from fires.\nWe then go into the main course with the Big Night\, and get ready for our Thanksgiving Feasts with Julie & Julia! \n  \nWE are CLOSED for Thanksgiving Holiday on Thursday\, November 28\, and Friday\, November 29.

SUMMARY:Closed for Veterans Day
DESCRIPTION:The library will be closed Monday\, November 11th\, in observance and celebration of all those that have served in the US military. \nVeterans Day\, observed annually on November 11\, is a tribute to military veterans who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. Not to be confused with Memorial Day\, which honors those who died while in service\, Veterans Day honors all military veterans\, including those still with us \nVeterans Day\, originally celebrated as Armistice Day\, was first issued on November 11\, 1919 by President Woodrow Wilson a year after the end of World War I. The purpose of Armistice day was to honor the fallen soldiers of The Great War for their sacrifice and bravery. 7 years later in 1926\, Congress adopted a resolution requesting President Coolidge issue annual proclamations on November 11\, making Armistice Day a legal holiday. \nIn 1945\, World War II veteran Raymond Weeks had the idea to expand Armistice Day to celebrate all veterans rather than just the ones who died in World War I.

DESCRIPTION:For November we are all about being Thankful for Food & Drink.\nWe travel to Wine Country in Northern California and hope all the vineyards stay safe from fires.\nWe then go into the main course with the Big Night\, and get ready for our Thanksgiving Feasts with Julie & Julia! \nNovember 1 @ 1 PM: A Walk in the Clouds \nThe movie\, set in the vineyards of Northern California in the months right after World War II. SUMMARY:Friday Film Club: Yesterday
DESCRIPTION:October Friday Film Club\nFor October we ask What if…the Beatles never were…or you are stranded in Columbus at the local library… or you “occupied” a public library in a storm…or even worse\, your attacker looks just like you? \nThe film Yesterday has an intriguing premise: What if the Beatles never existed? Unsuccessful\, moderately talented singer-songwriter Jack Malik wakes up one day and is the only one who remembers the Beatles’ songs. Suddenly he can pose as the creator of the greatest music ever written. As a result\, he quickly becomes a world-renowned superstar. \nFilms are shown Friday Afternoon at 1 PM in our upstairs theater for adults 18 & up.\nHot Tea\, Pastries & Popcorn served and discussion after all movies. \nClick here to see all our films for October.

SUMMARY:Back to Friday Films
DESCRIPTION:Friday Film Club \nFilms are shown Friday Afternoon at 1 PM in our upstairs theater for adults 18 & up.\nHot Tea\, Pastries & Popcorn served and discussion after all movies. \nSeptember 13 @ 1 PM: The Tomorrow Man \nSometimes when we fear a loss of control it’s reassuring to be in control of anything at all. In “The Tomorrow Man\,” two lonely people “on the wrong side of 60” experience great loss and respond to the uncertainty around them in ways that have given them some comfort. But can they be willing to risk that sense of control for another kind of comfort that can also be terrifying? Will they take the risk of caring about each other?\nJohn Lithgow and Blythe Danner do the impossible\, in this young-centric world\, they give 60-something life! \nFor September our Friday Films go from men to women…Click Here for our September Films.

SUMMARY:Summer Adult Read: The Book of Strange New Things
DESCRIPTION:A monumental\, genre-defying novel that David Mitchell calls “Michel Faber’s second masterpiece\,” The Book of Strange New Things is a masterwork from a writer in full command of his many talents. \nIt begins with Peter\, a devoted man of faith\, as he is called to the mission of a lifetime\, one that takes him galaxies away from his wife\, Bea. Peter becomes immersed in the mysteries of an astonishing new environment\, overseen by an enigmatic corporation known only as USIC.   His work introduces him to a seemingly friendly native population struggling with a dangerous illness and hungry for Peter’s teachings—his Bible is their “book of strange new things.” But Peter is rattled when Bea’s letters from home become increasingly desperate: typhoons and earthquakes are devastating whole countries\, and governments are crumbling.  Suddenly\, a separation measured by an otherworldly distance\, and defined both by one newly discovered world and another in a state of collapse\, is threatened by an ever-widening gulf that is much less quantifiable.  While Peter is reconciling the needs of his congregation with the desires of his strange employer\, Bea is struggling for survival.  Their trials lay bare a profound meditation on faith\, love tested beyond endurance\, and our responsibility to those closest to us. \nBook available at the front desk and discussion on Thursday\, August 22 at 7 pm. \n  \nAt every Adult Summer Reading Program participants will receive a raffle ticket for a $10 Trader Joe’s gift card (drawing after each program).
