Friday Film Club: Citizen Kane

December 14, 2018 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Citizen Kane was based on the life of another strident and megalomaniacal magnate, William Randolph Hearst, and it told the sad story of the corrupting influence of vast wealth. Welles later said he meant it as a cautionary tale about this American type. “I must admit that it was intended consciously as a sort of social document, as an attack on the acquisitive society—and indeed on acquisition in general,” Welles told the BBC in 1960.

Films are shown Friday Afternoon at 1 PM in our upstairs theater for adults 18 & up.
Hot Tea, Pastries & Popcorn served and discussion after all movies.

In DECEMBER, the Friday Films look at absolute power and how it corrupts, as we go from The Death of Stalin to the Classic Citizen Kane.
We close out the year with how a little tyrant named Scrooge can be redeemed in Dickens’ A Christmas Carol; and selected the 1951 Alastair Sim version – still considered the best!
