Friday Film Club: The Death of Stalin
December 7 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Moscow, 1953: when tyrannical dictator Joseph Stalin drops dead, his parasitic cronies square off in a frantic power struggle to be the next Soviet leader. Most of us will know that Nikita Khrushchev will somehow win his battle for power against the secret service boss Lavrentiy Beria. But getting there is suspenseful enough to make this the rare satire that never wears out its welcome as the Keystone Cops try to find the ailing Stalin a doctor – Beria’s thugs have killed all the good ones – and then plan his state funeral.
When absolute power corrupts absolutely, who is left to run the Soviet Union?
In DECEMBER, the Friday Films look at absolute power and how it corrupts, as we go from The Death of Stalin to the Classic Citizen Kane.
We close out the year with how a little tyrant named Scrooge can be redeemed in Dickens’ A Christmas Carol; and selected the 1951 Alastair Sim version – still considered the best!
Films are shown Friday Afternoon at 1 PM in our upstairs theater for adults 18 & up.
Hot Tea, Pastries & Popcorn served and discussion after all movies.
